Lyrata’s SmartSoil system operates with up to 60% less energy usage, producing only 3-4 kg CO₂e per kilogram of lettuce by utilizing optimized climatized spaces and efficient energy management practices.

By utilizing existing climatized spaces and optimizing the growing conditions, the SmartSoil system minimizes energy usage. This not only lowers emissions but also reduces the overall carbon footprint of the production process.

Transport Benefits

The SmartSoil system achieves near-zero transportation emissions by growing food locally, significantly reducing food waste and logistics-related CO₂ output.

Since produce is grown in close proximity to where it is consumed, the loss of produce during transportation is almost eliminated. At the same time, this results in virtually zero logistics-related emissions and a significant reduction in food waste.

SmartSoil is developed through a process that reduces waste and ensures that the media can be recycled into the soil, enhancing sustainability.

SmartSoil uses a plant-based biopolymer that is fully biodegradable and eco-friendly. This low-impact growing medium results in just 0.0003 kg CO₂e per kilogram of lettuce, making it one of the most sustainable options in hydroponic farming.
